COOKING WITH MAMA G: MAKING PASTELON

learn to sew

HI DARLINGS! I was making a cooking video the other day and decided Mom aka Mama G should do it with me, we had a blast! This is one of our favorite family meals and a traditional Puertorican dish, the PASTELON.

There are so many yummy reason why this is one my favorite dishes. It has a delicious blend of sweet plantains, cheese and picadillo. It all melds perfectly in every bite and it reheats like a dream. It also reminds me of my grandma and all the great things I learned to cook from her.

PASTELON RECIPE

  1. 2 lbs Ground Beef

  2. 4-5 Ripe Plantains

  3. 1 Packet Sazon

  4. 1 Can Tomato sauce

  5. Adobo to taste

  6. 3-4 Tbsp Sofrito

  7. 1 Packet Hamon

  8. Green Olives (optional)

  9. Egg wash

Add olive oil, sazon, hamon, sofrito (olives if you are using them) tomato sauce and bring to a simmer. Brown your ground beef. Once cooked set aside.

Cut your plantains and fry them until lightly golden, halfway. They will finish cooking in the oven. Once they are all half fried you can start layering.

Add some of the egg wash to the bottom of the pan Layer your plantains. add meat, add cheese, and layer again.

If you have enough plantains make that your top layer but if you have extra meat as we did you can use it up as your last layer.

Our egg wash around edges and middle and cover with cheese.

Bake for 30-35 min at 375 degrees
